ARGUMENTATIVE TEXT


Hello everyone, back again on the Story Trail blog. This time, we will learn argumentative text in English. So, not only can you describe something in Indonesian, but also in English! Curious? Let's take a look together!


  • Sosial Function
Argumentative text is to convey an opinion or argument that is supported by facts, evidence, and logical reasoning. This is done so that readers can believe the writer's argument and change their opinion or expand their understanding of a topic.


  • Structure Argumentative Text
1. Thesis (The issues of concern)

    Example : Technology has become a very important part of our lives as humans. One of the most important things that can be gained from technology is the improvement of educational performance. Education is a very important part of our lives, and technology has the potential to help improve educational performance.

2. Arguments (The reasons for concern, leading to the recommendation)

Arguments 1

Example : Education can be more effective with technology: Technology can help education be more effective in various ways. For example, technology such as computers and online educational applications can help teachers and students learn material more effectively. 

Arguments 2

Example :  Technology can help teachers: Technology can help teachers in performing their duties. For example, technology such as computers and online educational applications can help teachers create more interactive and engaging educational materials.

Arguments 3 

Example : Technology can help students: Technology can help students in learning the material. For example, technology such as computers and online educational applications can help students learn the material in an easier and more interesting way.  

3. Recommendation (the statements of what ought or ought not to happen. The author tries to invite and persuade the reader to do something)

       Example : There may be some arguments that don't sit well with you. However, this does not state that technology cannot help education. Technology has the potential to help education be more effective, but it is not perfect and needs to be improved. 


  • Language Features and Language Component

  1. Modal Verbs: Modal verbs digunakan untuk menyatakan kemungkinan, kewajiban, atau kemungkinan. Contoh: "The public should consider wearing face shields as additional protection against COVID-19 infection."
  2. Adverbs: Adverbs digunakan untuk menyatakan cara atau derajat kegiatan. Contoh: "People should always wash their hands before eating."
  3. Evaluative Language: Evaluative language digunakan untuk menyatakan pendapat atau pendirian penulis terhadap suatu idea. Contoh: "The public should consider wearing face shields as additional protection against COVID-19 infection is appalling."
  4. Transitional Devices: Transitional devices digunakan untuk menyatakan hubungan antara ide atau gagasan. Contoh: "Because of this, it is important to consider wearing face shields as additional protection against COVID-19 infection."
  5. Declarative Statements: Declarative statements digunakan untuk menyatakan pendapat atau pendirian penulis terhadap suatu topik. Contoh: "The public should consider wearing face shields as additional protection against COVID-19 infection is a necessary step to protect public health."
  6. Rhetorical Questions: Rhetorical questions digunakan untuk menarik perhatian pembaca dan membuat mereka berpikir lebih dalam tentang topik yang dibahas. Contoh: "Do people want to be successful? Then they should consider wearing face shields as additional protection against COVID-19 infection."
  7. Passive Voice: Passive voice digunakan untuk mengakibatkan tindakan yang dilakukan oleh sesuatu atau sesebuah orang. Contoh: "The public should consider wearing face shields as additional protection against COVID-19 infection is being recommended by health experts."

Teenage behavior in society


Juvenile delinquency is an unlawful act committed by adolescents, either individually or in groups. Juvenile delinquency usually occurs in teenagers. Actions that violate social values and norms can certainly disturb public order.

Juvenile delinquency is divided into 2 types that violate the law are actions that include criminal acts. It is resolved through legal channels and can be done according to applicable laws. Examples include Fraud and forgery of official documents, Embezzlement of goods, Gambling, Voluntary or forced prostitution, etc.

Unlawful delinquency is an act that cannot be resolved in accordance with the law because it is not regulated in the law. For example, lying for the purpose of deception, skipping school without clear permission, wandering or going in groups without a clear purpose, hanging out with friends who bring bad influence.

Teenagers can become delinquent and act against the law, usually due to many factors. Whether it's their own will or the influence of others.  The factors can be family, social environment and self such as age, intelligence and gender.

How to overcome this juvenile delinquency can be solved by three actions such as the following, as long as the roles of parents, family, and the surrounding environment support each other.

Whether gadgets are appropriate for children under the age of


The use of gadgets in school children has drawn many opinions. We know that many children today use personal gadgets. The use of gadgets in children has a variety of views. Some people think that gadgets in school children can have so many benefits.

One of them is that they can obtain knowledge or information quickly. However, some others argue that children who are still in school should not be given personal gadgets. This is because it is feared that they are too focused on playing gadgets so that they do not concentrate on lessons.

Thus, we return this issue to parents, if indeed parents agree to give gadgets to children, they must pay extra attention so that they are not addicted to gadgets, especially games.

The Benefits of Exercise

Regular exercise has numerous benefits for both physical and mental health. Firstly, it can help to prevent and manage many chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, and obesity. This is because exercise helps to improve insulin sensitivity, lower blood pressure, and reduce inflammation in the body.

Moreover, exercise is also beneficial for mental health. It has been shown to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, improve cognitive function, and enhance overall well-being. In fact, regular exercise has been found to be just as effective as medication in treating depression.

However, some people argue that they do not have enough time to exercise or that they do not enjoy it. While it can be challenging to fit exercise into a busy schedule, there are many ways to incorporate physical activity into your day, such as taking the stairs instead of the elevator, going for a walk during your lunch break, or doing a quick workout at home.

In conclusion, regular exercise is essential for maintaining good physical and mental health. While some people may find it challenging to get started, there are many benefits to be gained from incorporating physical activity into your daily routine.
